Queen Anjali is back in this sequel to The Throwaway Queen. After enduring a series of life-or-death situations and saved the day, it’s time for her to decide: what’s next? Returning back to Ushallav to recover and regroup, she gets to consider what her future looks like. But it’s not easy making these choices when making room for the happiness of her children, her family, and her kingdom—and to make such decisions so publicly.
But Anjali knows one thing for certain: her future is uncertain but it’s hers.
What makes your book unique?
The Vindicated Queen is a New Adult fantasy book so the target audience and main cast are in their 20s. I wrote this book for readers who are ready to graduate from YA fantasy and discuss more mature topics. But I also wanted to create a leading lady who already has children and still has adventures coming her way.
I wrote this sequel with intersectional feminism in mind. This book discusses race, dating, parenthood, divorce, death, mental health, and trusting yourself. I wanted to honor the young moms in my life who are learning to embrace their multiple roles as mother, wife, friend, daughter, and (yes) queen.
Mild spoiler but Queen Anjali will experience dating as a divorced mother of two. With that comes ups and downs of trying to find someone who suits her but someone she suits in return. She’ll date princes, artists, fighters, and more in this book.
Who would be interested in reading this book?
I wrote this novel for all my young mom friends. I’ve always wanted to see a young mother as a strong, confident protagonist. You’ll enjoy this novel if you’re a fan of motherhood, feminism, and royal intrigue. This book also features prominent LGBTQIA+ rep, including Gurpreet, Anjali’s non binary bestie.
Beyond intrigue, the novel has adventure, mystery, and fantasy world building.
I’m currently drafting this WIP and it’ll soon enter the editing phase. Readers can expect to get their copies in Winter 2024 or early 2025.
