Happy Memorial Day weekend to all my American friends! Hope you’re enjoying the long weekend so far. Time for another Weekend Writing Warriors snippet. Every Sunday, I join a bunch of writers through a blog hop and post an 8-10 sentence snippet of my current project. You can click on the link to see what everyone else is up to.
Sorry for getting here so late to the game (it’s already Sunday morning over here), so let’s cut to the chase. Last week, you got part one of Lotte’s summary of the fairy tale, The Wild Swans. Her brother suggests reading it or taking the tale seriously because of the major parallels he’s seeing. Now, Lotte summarizes part two of the tale, which showcases things that could happen to her in the future, should she choose to believe it.
Until the princess finishes the nettle shirts, she can’t ask for help, nor can she cry, laugh, or do anything else.
I rubbed a stray tear off my face. Does this sort of thing happen to everyone? Are there people out there like me, or does Chris have a penchant for European fairy tales? I scrunch up my face as I get to the end.
A prince finds the princess, Elisa, in the woods trying to finish her work. He wants to marry her and takes her away. The stepmother comes back with a vengeance and steals the dumb girl’s babies (the king’s heirs) away and tries to frame Elisa for it. The quest for nettles continues to make her look like a witch. Only her swan brothers can save her from burning at the stake as they put on the nettle shirts and everyone’s free to finally tell the truth.
If my life were taking a turn like this and I read this fairytale, I wouldn’t necessarily be too thrilled to play the part of he princess. What do you think Lotte will do with this information? Until then, check out other snippets here. You can also learn more about the novel, Speechless, here. Don’t forget to comment below if you’ve got a snippet to share as well! Compliments and constructive insight are equally welcome.
I wouldn’t wish anything to do with nettles on her future.
I wouldn’t wish anything nettle-related on my worst enemy but here we are…
Man, Lotte is really in tough spot! The story gets more interesting every week. I don’t know what she’s going to do but I’m going to show up next week hoping to find out.
Thanks for reading! 😀 I always try to make the snippets interesting.
Oh wow, just when you think things can’t get any worse!
Right? Thanks for reading!
I am horribly allergic to poison ivy, poison oak, and NETTLES. If I had to choose… oh my.
Sounds like sudden death is on the table…
