Time for another Weekend Writing Warriors snippet. Every Sunday, I join a bunch of writers through a blog hop and post an 8-sentence snippet of my current project. You can click on the link to see what everyone else is up to.
This snippet occurs after the girls manage to make it back to a neighboring fishing village. After resting and of course digesting everything that occurred, they have a surprise reunion with one of Ladala’s (often called “the Elf-lady”) soldiers.
“Liselotte!” Ilsi cried, “You made it.”
“Aye, we did, about a week ago,” she said, still looking at her little project. “Didn’t think you’d be back so soon.”
“So soon?” Ilsi repeated.
“They couldn’t kick us out fast enough,” Reshma grumbled, slowly shifting around, keeping the blankets about her.
“We tried talking with them, but as soon as they discovered that I had Swift, they practically banished us,” Ilsi said. “Why didn’t any of you tell us that the rings would turn us into mermaids, anyway?”
Liselotte laughed, “If I had any clue, I would’ve informed you immediately.”
Check out my other snippets here. Read my next snippet next Sunday. And comment below if you’ve got a snippet to share as well!
Why yes, it would have been nice to know about the mermaid-making rings! Such an inventive story.
Great snippet! Mermaid-making rings, who would have thought? Very creative!
Mermaids – fun to try for a while.
Unexpectedly turning into a mermaid would be surprising! Fun excerpt…
Interesting, not too often do I come upon a story with a ring that changes people into mermaids. You definitely piqued my curiosity! 🙂 I thought the dialogue was great and showed off the personality of the two characters. I read some of the previous snippets, and the one referring to accumulation of the 4 powers reminded me of Legend of Zelda and the Triforce for some reason 😛 Is Dalit a mermaid? She seemed distant, which would make sense if she wasn’t a human.
Haha, I don’t know much about Zelda (although Travis knows his stuff), so it wasn’t an intentional nod towards the Triforce. But yes, Dalit is a mermaid. I’ve just recently explored her and her personality this past month, so it was fun to introduce her to everyone. 🙂
You had me at mermaids. This sounds like an amazing world!
