Time for another Weekend Writing Warriors snippet. Every Sunday, I join a bunch of writers through a blog hop and post an 8-10 sentence snippet of my current project. You can click on the link to see what everyone else is up to.
Instead of dwelling on Christoph’s visit, Lotte and Sam get to work on researching for answers. While they don’t immediately find anything on magic-nixers, they find what they need to make wristbands out of stinging nettles. This is one parallel from the story, except they’re willing to try a wristband instead of a whole shirt like the fairytale describes.
I held one of the wristbands in my hand for my brothers to inspect. My brothers were hesitant, because they weren’t sure what it would do.
“Is it safe?” Alex asked. I grinned and wiggled it in front of his face and he reacted like it was a caterpillar.
“Of course it is, doofus,” Ben said, “Lotte wouldn’t be holding it if it was poisonous.”
I held up my board: Who wants to try it on?
Alex raised his hand unnecessarily as if the teacher just called on him.
“I propose the little Peeds gets it,” he said, referring to Peder. The other brothers nodded in agreement and decided it was the chivalrous thing to do—or they were scared about what would happen, and Peder made a decent sacrifice. Either way, Peder got to try it first.
Will it work? Until next week, you can check out other snippets here. You can also learn more about the novel, Speechless, here. Don’t forget to comment below if you’ve got a snippet to share as well! Compliments and constructive insight are equally welcome.
