Whitney:
Hmm, well, this month went a lot differently than planned. It probably didn’t help that I wasn’t as diligent with my goals, or just looking back on them to remember what needed to be done this month. I ended up accomplishing things and dropping others.
If you remember my last update on NaNoWriMo, things weren’t going so hot for me. I was way behind work count and I wasn’t sure if I’d finish. Well actually, I didn’t pick up enough steam to continue. I realized that I was trying to write when I still should be in editing mode.
I did get quite a bit of editing done—I worked on Speechless, and I’ll be working closely again with Destiny Seeker now that I have a fresh batch of beta reader edits/suggestions in my inbox. I’ve already delved in and I’m pretty excited to get back into that world I created. Never fear, I will likely get my act together and reach some writing goals in July’s round of Camp NaNoWriMo.
As for indie reading and reviewing, I just barely finished reading Fairest Poison by Laura Skidmore and I will be reviewing it as part of a blog tour in a few weeks or so! I’m also dipping my toes into Valley of the Shadow by Christina Ochs and I hope to review that soon as well.
What else? I’ve joined She’s Novel’s writing community, Your Write Dream, and I participated in my first round of #StorySocial. I highly recommend both outlets if you’re a writer/blogger looking for a writing community. I also started taking a course, Build a Better Blog Challenge, through Brigid Gallagher. I’m trying out all these fun things to get a better handle of how to be a better blogger and just overall be better at being part of the community while still working on my own writing.

Travis:
April was appropriately bonkers, but also satisfying in its own way. I more or less kept up with my writing during the month, which pleased me knowing that I had finals on top of them. I’ve also been writing some Star Wars fan fiction just for fun. With the end of the semester, I was also able to finally finish Brandon Sanderson’s Shadows of Self. Probably the best news of the month was learning that the other writers in my writing group are sticking around for the summer, so we will continue meeting!
Goals for May
- Weekly writing group submission
- Read Brandon Sanderson’s Firefight
So those’re some of our quick little updates. How about you? What’s in store for you in May?
