Hey, writers and readers
It’s not a good month without an indie novel or two. Today I’ll be reviewing Comic Diaries Volume 2: The Newlywed Game by Brittany Olsen. Brittany happens to be my sis-in-law, so I got to experience a lot of the events and growth that took place in this book.
Check out the review below. I’ll be sharing some thoughts about what I love about this book and why it’s a good read for you.
Rating: 5 stars
Synopsis
It’s your typical romance: Boy meets girl. Boy proposes to girl. Girl tries not to turn into bridezilla while planning their wedding, trying to get boy to like her vegan cooking, and publishing her first book. In this second Comic Diaries collection from Brittany Long Olsen (DENDO: One Year and One Half in Tokyo), charming slice-of-life cartoons offer a closer look at young love and how to have as much fun on as little money as possible.
What I Enjoyed
So there are a few things I think everyone will enjoy. First, the art style is cute and clean. As someone who is in these comics, I can tell you that her renditions of these people are similar to how they look IRL. Her style is really charming and enjoyable—especially the animals and food!
Olsen’s approach to marriage and her whole engagement was also refreshing and fun. Since this is her journal, she balances the fun and the stress. We have moments of triumph and anxiety. Whether you’ve been engaged or not, her comics are relatable.
My Final Thoughts
Overall, this collection is appropriate and fun for all ages but especially for people who are looking for a refreshing look at engagements, weddings, and newlywed life. If you are encouraging others to enhance their writing or creativity, you can use Olsen’s comic diary as an example.
I hope I shared enough to still pique your curiosity without giving too much away. If you’d like to learn more about Brittany Olsen and her work, you can catch up with her via social media:
